MiHoYo launched the global release of Genshin Impact which is a free ARPG that has so many similarities to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wind. It is also an open world game with RPG mechanics but with the gacha system and co-op gameplay, plus it is free to play.

Gameplay

Genshin Impact is a 3D open world RPG with fast-paced combats. You start as a brother or sister of the twin and the other gets kidnapped, so you need to start your quest to save the other. While exploring the world, you are able to walk, swim, jump and glide around with smooth movement. During your travel, you will discover and collect many items, food, artifacts, materials and weapons everywhere to help you level up. Moreover, you will meet with different characters and recruit them into your team, or you can unlock new members through the gacha system. There is no auto-combat and auto-movement in the Genshin Impact, so you need to count on your skills to play through the game.

Graphics & Controls

The art style in Genshin Impact is no doubt a top-notch design. Not only the characters but all the objects and scenes are drawn in high quality. The menus are very clean and easy to read as well. Through the gameplay you will be guided on the usage of different control buttons and how to give off the biggest damage to the enemies in the combat. There is a movement pad at the left corner which won’t show up if you don’t touch the screen. The jump, swim and other special movement buttons are at the right corner, together with a few attack buttons which appear differently according to the characters you are using. For example, if your character’s weapon is a sword, then the attack button will look like a sword, if your character is good at shooting, then the button will be like an arrow. These details can really show how much effort MiHoYo puts in this game.

Multiple Characters with Different Skills

You can switch to different characters in your team freely. This is really useful especially when you are in combats as they feature different elemental powers. You can have four heroes in your team during combat, and you have a better chance to win the fight if you put characters whose abilities are more matched to the weakness of the enemies. For instance, you can pick up Amber as the fighter during a fast distance combat as her skill is shooting from afar.

You can click on the Character Screen at the right up corner to switch from different characters and enhance their weapons to level up.

Achievements & Quests

You need to complete quests one by one through the journey. Once a quest is completed, you will receive certain Quest Chain Rewards including coins and gems to help you purchase and upgrade stuffs. If you are lost in the quest, don’t worry, just turn on the Navigation and you will be guided to the right direction.

There are currently fourteen achievements for you to complete in Genshin Impact. When you complete the task, you will be rewarded with Primogem, a primordial crystalline gem for you to purchase in the Shop. Although there are in-game purchase that requires up to $99.99, but you can still choose to complete more quests and achievements to get crystals and gems.

Join the Daily Event also provides you with plenty of reward each day, so don’t forget to login every day to grab your prize.

Conclusion

More or less, Genshin Impact is a JRPG game with stunning art style and great storyline. Although it has so many similarities to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wind, this game still worths playing. Genshin Impact offers cross-platform support for the co-op content which is unlocked at level 16, and it also supports auto-save feature across PC and mobile so you can keep up from where you left last time without data loss. Even if you are not a fan of RPG, you will still be satisfied with its design and gameplay.
