Onmyoji: The Card Game is a collectible card game developed by NetEase Games. As a spinoff of Onmyoji, the game inherits some vital features from the previous edition, such as the world construct and the exquisite Japanese-style game scene design. Onmyoji: The Card Game is now available on Apkfab, and let's take a quick look at this new RPG card battle game.

What's Onmyoji: The Card Game?

The background is set in the land of Yokai called Shinkiro where the most popular activity is to play the card game Hyakubun. Our protagonist Mouba lost her secret soup, so she has to explore the city to search for clues in order to catch the thief and get her soup back. During her adventure, Mouba will encounter many warm-hearted Yokai friends who are willing to lend her a hand but also suspected thieves and enemies. In order to find the next clue and level up, Mouba and her friends need to solve all the conflicts by playing the card game, recruiting Shikigami, and using its secret cards.

Honestly, the story is less impressive than its addicting gameplay. If you are an RPG fan who loves great stories, you may find yourself feeling disappointed with the bland storyline. These stories are both auto-playable and skippable, which allows gamers to speed their gaming progress.

Gameplay

The core part of the game is the Shikigami and its exclusive cards. Just like most RPG games, Onmyoji: The Card game adopts turn-based battle gameplay. On the combat field, each player has 4 Shikigami that are equipped with 8 exclusive cards each, and they take turns to perform attacks against the opponent. The player is defeated once the health status reaches 0 or below.

Each Shikigami has its own abilities and cards to use. Hangan, for example, has strong wipe capability and can use a Death Penalty card to destroy an opponent Shikigami directly. The cards of Shikigami are divided into different categories as Combat Cards, Spell Cards, and Form Cards, and gamers can use a variety of cards to perform attacks, revive their defeated Shikigami, shield their Shikigami during combats, and more.

In order to defeat your opponents, you need to deal as much damage to them as possible in each turn and also recover health for your Shikigami to keep them in a healthy and aggressive status. As you progress, the game becomes more difficult. Shikigami are required to reach a higher level to use cards that cause destructive damage or have more powerful functions. Onmyoji: The Card game also has a PVP part which allows you to combat with real players. The newbie-friendly instruction can guide you throughout the game about when to level up, how to perform your attack, and when to end your turn, so you can learn the game quickly.

Performance and graphics

In addition to the addictive gameplay, Onmyoji: The Card game also features exquisite Japanese scenes and soundtracks. Even gamers who don't have a sense of playing the card game, they will still be fascinated by the terrific dynamic game scenes and characters.

It's free to download the game on Apkfab now. The file size of the game is about 2.9GB, which really takes a long time to download and install the game on my mobile device. Although the game was just released, I didn't encounter many crashes or obvious bugs during my playing. However, it's better for gamers to play the game on a high-end gaming phone to make sure the game can run smoothly.

Conclusion

Onmyoji: The Card Game Review

Onmyoji: The Card game combines the strategic card combat game with the immersive enjoyment of a role-playing game. The stories seem less attractive than other RPG games like Tales of Crestoria. However, the game is still worth a try for gamers who love card battle containing Shikigami.

Pros:

  • Addictive turn-based RPG battle gameplay
  • 2D dynamic graphics
  • Free to download and play

Cons:

  • In-app purchase
