League of Legends: Wild Rift Review

League of Legends: Wild Rift has brought out quite a number of champions on mobile. Currently there are 42 champions available for you to play, with more expected to add into the game after its full launch.

The champions in League of Legends: Wild Rift are divided into six classes which are fighter, tank, assassin, support, mage and marksman. Players can pick champions of any class according to their play styles to help them win the PvP battles.

During the gameplay and battles, you will unlock more champions with different skills. You can also buy champions, skins and most items in the store with the Wild Cores, which is the in-game currency, and can be purchased with the real money. If you buy Wild Cores in the closed beta version, Riot promises to refund all currency purchased during the trial stage with an up to 20% bonus.

Gameplay: Practice Mode vs AI and PvP Matches

League of Legends: Wild Rift Review

League of Legends: Wild Rift offers a detailed tutorial which is quite helpful for newbies like me. It guided me through the first battle on how to perform different skills and destroy the enemies’ Turrets and Nexus. You can practice your fighting skills and get to know which champion matches your play style the best during the Practice Mode versus AI bots and the PvP matches. But you cannot join in the ranked matches until you reach level 10.

One thing that you may take time to adjust is that League of Legends: Wild Rift features slower-paced gameplay as champions walk leisurely instead of chasing around on the map, which makes the entire battle easily to last over 15 to 20 minutes. And the fact that players can only buy items from their home base is also quite inconvenience on the battleground.

The most essential element to win the match is nice teamwork. You need to always focus on where your enemies are instead of wandering around the map. Riot has made a great map design on mobile version which is much better than other MOBAs. Keep track of your enemies’ movement from the mini map at the left up corner can help you protect your base and defeat enemies more efficiently.

Controls & Performance

League of Legends: Wild Rift Review

To perform skills on your enemies accurately, you need to hold and drag the attack button to aim at the correct direction and unleash the most powerful attack. I can see Riot Games has put a lot of effort in the control mechanics, as the direction pad and all skill buttons are all responsive and accurate according to my gameplay.

However, slow Internet will get you stuck during the match and easily get killed by the enemies, which is very common for all online battle games. Other than that, League of Legends: Wild Rift presents really sharp graphics and runs fluently most of the time.

Conclusion

League of Legends: Wild Rift hasn’t been released globally, but it has already given the beta players a great experience on its smooth gameplay and great performance. Even though there are still some drawbacks, we are sure Riot can improve them in the global launch.

Pros:

  • Solid graphics
  • Intuitive controls
  • Great champion and map designs

Cons:

  • Require good Internet connection
  • Only allow players to buy items on the home base
