Recently, the well-known social game company Zynga cooperated with Warner Bros and released its latest match-3 puzzle game Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells featuring the original Wizarding World characters from the Harry Potter films.

Gameplay

As a match-3 puzzle game, Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells requires you to match more than three gems of the same color to pass different match-3 puzzle challenges within limited number of moves. There are various spells and power-ups from the films that are familiar to the Harry Potter fans to help you solve the puzzles.

You can create different power-ups when you match different numbers of gems together. For example, when you match gems into a T-shape or T-shape, you will create a Bombastic Bomb which will explode and clear the gems around it. You can create a Severing Surge Power-Up by matching four gems in a row which can help you clear the entire row of the gems. While matching four gems into a square will create a Winged Key. Once the Winged Keys are activated, they will fly off and clear a hard-to-reach gem or any obstacle to help you win the puzzle. The strongest power-up will be the Charmed Bag Power-Up which can be created by matching five gems in the same color. To activate either of these power-ups, you can either double tap on them or swap them with any gem nearby.

Customizable Characters & Wand

In Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells you can customize your avatar into any color, appearance and hairstyle. Also you get a chance to pick a wand which will show up on the screen when you cast a spell.

Casting Spells

There are many spells that you can unlock and upgrade to cast them in the puzzles. Wingardium Leviosa spell can lift feathers that hide some parts of the puzzles and reveal the entire gameboard. Alohomora spell helps you to open the locked Gold Chests to collect in-game currency. Colovaria spell can change gem color to help you clear certain color of the gems more quickly.You can see Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells has taken care of each detail on different effects shown on the gameboard when you cast different spells.

Unlock & Level up Spells and Creatures

After completing each puzzle, your will earn total XP from the winning and an extra XP from the unused move bonus. So the more moves you left in the end, the more XP you will get. Once you reach to certain XP, you will level up and get rewards including spell upgrade or lives refill.

When you complete certain amount of puzzles, you can complete the current background scene and continue with new iconic scenes from the original Harry Potter movies. So you can play the puzzles while enjoying the journey through different famous locations as in the movie.

After you complete puzzles to earn enough stars, you will be able to open the Card Packs in the Albums. When the cards in the Album are all opened, you will be able to unlock new Creatures from Hagrid’s Hut. These creatures have different abilities to help you solve the puzzles.

Daily Events

On the Events Panel you will find various special events. When you complete these events you will receive great rewards. You can also get special rewards when you log in each day, and a Snowy Owl will be the gift for day 7 log-in users who have reached the level 60.

Conclusion

Overall, Harry Potter: Puzzles & Spells includes many memorable characters and scenes from the Harry Potter movies, as well as taking the original voice recordings from the movie, which shows us the hard work of Zynga does to bring us the most immersive gameplay in this match-3 puzzle game. However, the game easily gets boring when you play for a long time, and the higher levels you reach, the more difficult the goals will be. Some levels is hard to solve without using the power-ups which needs to buy with real-money.
