VCMI è un motore open source con lo scopo di riscrivere l'intero Heroes of Might and Magic 3 (opzionalmente con WoG) da zero, dandogli nuove ed estese possibilità. In breve, è il remake di Heroes 3 da zero.
Richiede l'esecuzione dei file di gioco originali, vedi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGO1I3asquY per maggiori informazioni su come installarlo (salta la prima parte del video con l'installazione di VCMI stesso da una fonte esterna).
VCMI è ancora in fase di sviluppo. Aspettatevi arresti anomali e bug (sul lato positivo sembra funzionare molto meglio della vecchia porta che era disponibile prima)

- Online multiplayer support, global lobby accessible via three-finger touch
- Basic controllers support added
- More natural looking random maps
- Most remaining campaign issues fixed
