The Worship Hymnal was the third of Brazilian Protestant Christians (the first was the Psalms and Hymns in 1861, the second Hymns and Songs in 1876).
This hymnal which is the first official hymnal of Igreja Batista of Brazil, was published in 1891 and its first version contained only 16 hymns.
Editions succeeded, always being increased by new hymns.
In 1921 came the 17th edition of hymnal, already with 571 hymns, 102 of which were authored or translation of Solomon Luiz Ginsburg.
Three years later, in 1924, the hymnal came out publicly for the first time with music, because until then only contained the letters with the hymns.
Since Solomon Luiz Ginsburg edited Worship in 1891, many others have collaborated. William Edwin Entzminger (72 songs), Henry Maxwell Wright (61 songs), Manoel Avelino de Souza (29 songs) and Ricardo Pitrowsky (23 songs) are the most letters or translations made in the current Worship.
The 54th edition was the last made by JUERP and is today used and marketed. In 1991 JUERP released Hymns for Christian Worship (HCC) which also makes significant part of the Brazilian Christian hymnody today.
It is essential to recognize the leading role of Worship in the history of Protestants in Brazil, because it was, and is, without doubt, the most popular hymn of the time, just because it contains hymns characteristic of his time. This value, of course, also must be given to "Psalms and Hymnos", "Hymnário Evangelical" and "Lyra Christa", because these were the first Protestant hymnal publications in the area of music and guided for many years throughout this segment.
Today JUERP does not publish more Worship, which has been republished both in the version of the lyrics and music by Geographic Publisher.
It can be said that the appreciation for this outstanding Christian hymnal is proportional to the significance of this, because of the notorious esteem for this book, which is, without question, one of the greatest milestones in the history of Brazilian Protestantism and Christian hymnody in general.
