Criminals generally exploit the large geography of India and sell the stolen vehicles in different states. As per constitution of India, Police is a state subject and hence Investigating officers were finding it difficult to investigate the vehicles stolen in their states. Also majority of the recovered vehicles were unable to be disposed off due to the fact that they were stolen from other states. To overcome this problem, NCRB developed a software to capture the stolen vehicle information across India and search facility was provided to all police officers. It was felt that this database is of help to public, RTA, Insurance agencies also because they can verify the status before purchase, re-registration, claim settlement etc. With this objective this system was opened to public, Road Transport Authorities and Insurance companies. As a next step, this mobile application was developed so that public need not have to come through web interface and can enquire about the status of the vehicles using their mobile devices. This App can be used to track the status of a stolen vehicle or verify the status of a second hand vehicle before purchase. The system provides exact and partial matches on Registration number, Engine number and Chassis Number, This service is provided only for information to General Public, and it is not valid for Insurance Claims or any other Legal Purpose. The data available with NCRB is entered by state police and they themselves are responsible for the accuracy.
