Here at rem, our mission is simple: to help you make an impact on society’s most important issues. It’s a simple and yet fundamental desire that runs deep within all of us to take meaningful actions and make a difference in our everyday lives. But for so many of us college students and young professionals caught in the day-to-day grind of going to class and doing homework or having to work and pay bills, these desires to make an impact often get pushed to the back-burner and subdued as time goes on. We know how important this desire to make a difference is, and how so many of us weren’t feeling satisfied with the impact we were having in our status quo. That’s why we founded rem, and why we continue to believe so much in our mission.
What we’re building
Our goal is to serve as an all-encompassing digital ecosystem for charitable giving, allowing you to discover, donate, and share charitable causes directly on our platform. First, we independently compile research, data, and stories about the most effective global charities in their respective fields following the guidelines and principles of effective altruism. Then, we recommend these charities to you based on your history of interests and what’s important in the moment through a Netflix style recommendation algorithm. Donation capabilities are integrated and secured directly on our platform through Stripe for your ease of access as well. After donations, you’re able to receive updates from your favorite charities and see the impact of your contributions in real time. Finally, we envision a community where you can share charities with friends, scroll through a Venmo-style feed of global and friend donations, write posts designed to raise awareness for their causes, and engage in fundraising competitions on our platform. Some of these functionalities like the social community features and real-time charity updates are in development right now, but we’re committed to seeing this vision through.
