What is Poppy Playtime and Huggy Wuggy?
There's nowhere to go in this horror game set in an abandoned toy factory (Poppy Playtime).
In Poppy Playtime, the dolls are creepy. Big shiny eyes, frozen facial expressions, thin arms and legs that seem quite capable of suddenly springing into action. In addition, some dolls can talk. In the world of Poppy Playtime, it's only natural to worry that a harmless doll might one day say or do something absolutely terrifying.
And that feeling is 100 times worse when you're talking about a big doll. I'm talking about a doll six feet tall. Like ... Huggy Wuggy.
What happens in the first chapter of Poppy Playtime?
The inherent creepiness of the dolls in Poppy Playtime is what makes an abandoned toy factory a great place to play scary. In the first chapter of Poppy Playtime's terrifying adventure, you're a former Playtime Co. employee visiting the toy factory years after all the employees suddenly disappeared. That sounds like a bad idea! You really should let the sleeping dolls at Poppy Playtime lie. Trust me.
On the other hand, in Poppy Playtime you don't have to treat all the toys as enemies. You have your own toys to help you when you start exploring and solving puzzles in the dark and creepy factory. The GrabPack is a set of toy hands that you can tie to yourself that act as cute grab hooks. As you play Poppy Playtime, click and your big plastic hand will flit around the room and get hooked on something. Click again and it will bring it back.
In Poppy Playtime, you use them to pull knobs and levers, and you can even grab the power node and stretch the wrist cords to close the electrical circuit, which is useful in a factory that has been closed for ten years. As you might have guessed, in Poppy Playtime just turning on the lights and starting the equipment takes some work.
And, of course, you're not alone in Poppy Playtime. As you gather your GrabPack and go deeper into the hallways and offices, you'll notice a towering, grinning sentry named Huggy Wuggy standing guard over the Poppy Playtime factory. Huggy Wuggy is big and cute and fluffy and I hate him, he has a wide friendly smile and he's an absolute nightmare, he's fluffy and cute and wants to give you a big hug! Tight hug. I wouldn't recommend letting him do that in a Poppy Playtime game.
