The contents of this app is for informational purposes only. It presents real-world results of data usage and battery consumption of the most popular video calling apps under standard conditions. Skype, Hangouts (formerly Google Talk), Tango, WeChat and ooVoo are the most downloaded video calling apps for Android smartphhones and tablets, and as such were reviewed in this comparitive analysis.
The proliferation of smartphone apps that provide this functionality has opened up new avenues of communication for smartphone users. Using video calling over over a wi-fi internet connection can result in calls that are vitually free (depending on the wi-fi plan), but making calls using 3G / HSDPA / LTE can incur network carrier costs. The question is how much data do these calls use, as this will determine whether it is feasible to use video calling when not on a wi-fi internet connection. In addition, these apps also work on Apple iOS devices such as iPads and iPhones, and the comparative data usage on thse devices for video calling apps is also presented here. Further demands on device resouces, such as the RAM usage by the apps, is also presented.
