ZFオートマチックトランスミッションは、1シリーズハッチバックから素晴らしいアルピナやMモデルまで、BMWのすべての車種に採用されています。
ハードウェアはすべてのアプリケーションで共通で、主に2つのタイプ（6速の6HP19/21と6HP26/28、8速の8HP45/50と8HP70/75）に分かれていますが、トランスミッションコントロールユニット内のソフトウェアによって、あらゆる車両にトランスミッションを適合させ、様々なドライバースタイルを模倣することが可能です。ディーゼル車ではスムーズで快適な走りを実現し、同じトランスミッションでもスナップオンテイクオフや驚くほど速いシフトタイム、レーススタイルのダウンシフト時のスロットルブリップを実現するために微調整を行うことができます。
トランスミッションのチューニングは、より速く、より大きなパワーを得るためだけではありません。オートマチックトランスミッションは、車両のダイナミクスに深く関わり、全体的なドライビングエクスペリエンスに大きく寄与しています。渋滞や市街地走行、ドラッグストリップやサーキット走行まで、TCUはクルマのフィーリングを大きく左右します。マニュアル車の運転が人それぞれであるように、オートマチックトランスミッションもTCU内のマップに秘密があり、自分好みに調整することで、パンフレットに書かれているような体験ができるのです：駆けぬける喜び
