mappilapattu or mappila pattukal is orginated from traditional culture of muslims mainly from malabar area of kerala(mappila). These songs are laced with arabic and muslim culture. many of the mappilapattu songs are closely related to cultural paractices and history of malabar. Songs themes varies from marriages to war.
Sometimes mappilapattu will be compiled with words taken from different languages like hindi, urudu, tamil, arabic etc. but overall song structure will be in malayalam.
In mappilapattu we can see the complete life of malabar muslims from birth to death including love and heroism. it has become a important part of malayalm litrature and some of the modern reality shows has taken the spirit of it and started programs on mappila pattukal.
